What is Moisture Wicking? The property of a fabric that pulls sweat away from the skin to its outer surface where it can evaporate.
Wicking fabrics move moisture away from the body through capillary action — the same physical principle that lets water rise in a paper towel. Sweat is pulled into the fabric, spread across a wider surface area, and evaporates faster. Wicking fabrics include polyester, polypropylene, and merino wool. Cotton does the opposite — it absorbs and holds moisture, which is why it is the wrong choice for active wear in any temperature.
