About WhetherWear
WhetherWear is a free progressive web app that recommends outfits based on real-time weather. Our layering engine analyzes temperature, humidity, wind, UV index, and precipitation, then returns a complete outfit — base layer, mid layer, outerwear, and accessories — calibrated to your gender and style preference.
What WhetherWear does
WhetherWear is a free, weather-powered wardrobe assistant. It pulls real-time conditions and forecasts from leading weather providers, runs them through our layering engine, and returns a complete outfit suggestion calibrated to the actual conditions you'll face today. It is a Progressive Web App (PWA) you can install on iOS or Android, or use directly in any modern browser. No account required.
How it works
Real-time temperature, feels-like, wind chill, humidity, UV index, and precipitation feed into the same garment-catalog logic that powers the app's recommendations. Each output covers four slots: base layer (next to skin), mid layer (insulation), outer layer (shell or coat), and accessories (hat, gloves, scarf, sunglasses, umbrella). Recommendations adapt to your gender preference, your chosen style mode (work, casual, active), and your personal temperature preference (runs cold / runs hot).

The engine behind it
WhetherWear's layering engine is the same logic deployed across every guide and city page on this site. Recommendations are tested against the temperature thresholds documented by NOAA, OSHA, and the CDC for cold and heat stress, and against established research on metabolic heat output for activity-specific calibration. See our editorial standards for the full sourcing notes.
