What is Heat Wave? A sustained period of unusually high temperatures, often paired with humidity.
A heat wave is a multi-day period of temperatures significantly above normal for the location and time of year. Heat waves cause more weather-related deaths than any other event in the US. The danger compounds because nighttime lows stay elevated, AC becomes critical, and the body cannot cool itself between exposures. Heat waves combined with humidity (heat index over 105°F) are particularly dangerous.
