What is Softshell? A flexible, breathable jacket fabric designed to block wind without the stiffness of a hard shell.
Softshell jackets use stretchy, woven fabric that is wind-resistant and water-repellent but not fully waterproof. They breathe better than hard shells (Gore-Tex jackets) and are more comfortable for active use in dry to lightly damp conditions. Softshells are the right choice for cool-weather running, hiking, climbing, and ski touring where breathability matters and full waterproofing is not required.
