What is Pit Zips? Vertical zippers under the arms of a jacket that allow venting without exposing the body to weather.
Pit zips run from the underarm down to the waist along the side of a jacket. Opened, they release body heat that builds up inside a waterproof or insulated jacket; closed, they are invisible. Pit zips are the single best feature on a commuter or active rain jacket — they let you vent without removing the layer entirely, which is the difference between dry and clammy in changing conditions.
