Gore-Tex
A waterproof, breathable membrane technology used in technical outerwear.
What is Gore-Tex? A waterproof, breathable membrane technology used in technical outerwear.
Gore-Tex is a microporous membrane developed by W.L. Gore & Associates. The membrane has billions of pores per square inch — large enough to let water vapor (sweat) escape, small enough to block liquid water (rain) from entering. Gore-Tex is the most well-known waterproof breathable membrane but is not the only one — eVent, Pertex Shield, NeoShell, and many proprietary house-brand membranes work similarly. Gore-Tex jackets cost more than non-membrane rain jackets but breathe far better, which matters during sustained or active use.
