Goodyear Welt
A boot and shoe construction method that allows for resoling.
What is Goodyear Welt? A boot and shoe construction method that allows for resoling.
A Goodyear welt is a strip of leather or synthetic material stitched between the upper of a shoe and its sole. Goodyear-welted shoes can be resoled many times — the old sole is removed and a new one is stitched in. Quality dress shoes (Allen Edmonds, Alden, Crockett & Jones) and work boots (Red Wing, Wolverine 1000 Mile, White's Boots) use Goodyear construction. Cement-construction shoes (most modern cheap shoes) cannot be resoled and are disposable.
