- How does WhetherWear recommend outfits?
- WhetherWear analyzes real-time weather data — temperature, humidity, wind, UV index, and precipitation — and runs it through a layering engine that returns a complete outfit: base layer, mid layer, outerwear, and accessories. Recommendations adapt to your gender and chosen style mode (work, casual, or active).
- Is WhetherWear free?
- Yes. WhetherWear is completely free, requires no account, and works offline once installed as a Progressive Web App on your phone or desktop.
- Can I use WhetherWear without giving my location?
- Yes. You can search any city manually. Location, if shared, is used only to fetch local weather and is never stored on our servers.
- What temperature units does WhetherWear use?
- WhetherWear supports both Fahrenheit and Celsius. You can switch units in the app settings. Internally, the layering engine works in Fahrenheit and converts for display.
- Does WhetherWear work offline?
- Yes. WhetherWear is a Progressive Web App that caches the interface, your last forecast, and your preferences locally. You can open the app without an internet connection and see your most recent recommendations.
- How accurate is the outfit recommendation?
- WhetherWear weighs temperature, feels-like, wind, humidity, UV, and precipitation against a curated garment catalog built from real-world layering research. The recommendation is calibrated to keep an average adult comfortable for the activity level you select. Personal preferences (running cold or hot) can be adjusted in settings.
- Can WhetherWear help me pack for a trip?
- Yes. The Pack feature accepts a destination and date range, pulls the multi-day forecast for that location, and generates a complete packing list calibrated to the weather you will encounter.
- Does WhetherWear collect personal data?
- WhetherWear stores preferences only on your device. Location is requested only to fetch weather and is not transmitted to our servers in identifiable form. See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
- Which weather provider does WhetherWear use?
- WhetherWear sources current conditions and forecasts primarily from WeatherAPI.com, with Open-Meteo as a secondary source. Both are independent of WhetherWear and provide attribution as required by their respective terms of service.
- How often is the WhetherWear outfit data updated?
- Outfit recommendations refresh every time the forecast does — typically every 15 to 30 minutes for current conditions and hourly for the multi-day outlook. The layering engine, garment catalog, and seasonal heuristics are versioned and updated on every release.
